DIY Style: How to change your engine oil 

Having your Charlotte Toyota engine oil changed is a necessary auto service that you need in your car maintenance plan. You can always take your Toyota car to get your engine oil changed, but if you can’t make it down here, then we have a DIY just for you! Let’s dive in!

Tools you’ll need to change your engine oil

  • Engine oil

  • Oil filter

  • Oil filter wrench

  • Socket and wrench set

  • Jack and jack stands

  • Funnel

Step #1 Prepare your Toyota car.

Make sure that you park on a level surface before you pop open the hood and being to work on your Charlotte Toyota engine.

Step #2 Find the drain plug.

Now it’s time to go underneath your car and place your Charlotte Toyota engine oil container under the drain plug.


Step #3 Loosen the drain plug.

Use a ratcheting wrench that is the size that you need and being to loosen the drain plug counterclockwise. Don’t remove it completely from the Charlotte Toyota oil pan. Also, don’t be scared if your engine oil beings to drip. This is super normal!

Step #4 Drain your Charlotte Toyota engine oil.

Now it’s time to remove the drain plug! Your oil is going to begin to pour out so have your fluid container ready. This will take a couple of minutes, so just be patient.

Step #5 Change the oil filter.

After your Charlotte Toyota oil is done draining, then you can change your oil filter. If your Toyota car has a cartridge filter, just remove the cap from the filter housing and use the new filter! However, if you have a screw-on filter, then remove the filter by twisting it off. You’ll need to use some oil on the rubber O-ring!

Step #6 Reinstall the drain plug.

Usually, a drain plug will come with your oil filter (BOGO), but if it doesn’t come with one, then you can always use the good ‘ol Google!


Step #7 New oil!

Find the oil fill cap and remove it. Now, you can use your funnel to start pouring in fresh oil!


Step #8 Check the oil level.

Remove the dipstick and wipe the oil off with a cloth. Then, place the dipstick back in and determine if you need more oil or if you’re good to go! If your oil is golden, then you’re good to go!


Step #9 Put the filler cap on.

After the filler cap is sealed, go ahead and start your car! Be on the lookout for any oil leaks during this step!


Step #10 Clean up.

Now you can throw away and recycle any old parts and trash. Also, it’s good to go ahead and clean the tools that you used.
