Spring cleaning your car’s interior

We all have busy lives and with that, we might say “out of sight, out of mind”, from all the gum wrappers before interviews or coins from getting your change at a drive-thru, but it’s time to pick it up. Grab a trash bag because you’re going to start with the interior. Make sure to go through your glovebox, seatback pockets, under your seats, and trunk or cargo space. Once you are all done with throwing the trash out, you’re going to…

  • Use a paintbrush to dust in cracks and crevices, like inside your A/C vents.

  • Wipe everything down in detail using the proper car detailing supplies, like your center console, steering wheel, dish, and anything else plastic in the car, including buttons and knobs.

  • Clean every window – you may think it looks clean, but it is not…trust us. Definitely clean the insides of your windows, back window, and windshield with the appropriate cleaner (using the wrong cleaner can damage your tinted windows.

  • Thoroughly vacuum the interior. Make sure to get under the seats, in the seatback pockets, in the cupholders, in seat cracks, in your trunk or cargo area, and in your center console.

  • If you have fabric seats, definitely consider shampooing them and spot-treat any stains leftover from the holiday season. If you have SofTex or leather seats, clean them up and condition them so they’re ready for the heat of summer.

  • Shampoo and spot treat any stains in your floor mats and cargo mats.

  • Stick dryer sheets under the seats and for cheap air fresheners

  • Once you’ve completed your interior, consider investing in a sunshade – it prolongs your car’s seating material and you won’t have to worry about putting your seatbelt on without burning yourself.

Spring cleaning your car’s exterior

You need to give your car’s exterior some love and attention because of the past winter season; Freezing temperatures, constant rain, and heavy wind gusts can seriously give your car some dust buildup. To optimize your car’s exterior, we asked our Charlotte Toyota experts, at the service center, to give the best tips.

  • Start by washing your car thoroughly – our service center techs can help you pick the most effective soap. Rinse, then dry with a microfiber cloth to make sure no water stains remain when you’re done.

  • Don’t forget to wash your tires well, and scrub the road dust and grime off of your wheels. Apply tire shine afterward to get them nice and glossy.

  • Clay bay your Charlotte Toyota. It is so worth it, it will look like you have a brand new car looking at the shine you have afterward – clay bars pull contaminants and debris out of your paint.

  • Clean the exterior glass with the right cleaner.

  • Make sure you’re parked in the shade and apply a coat or two of quality wax. Car wax not only protects your car from the harsh summer sun but also helps to repel moisture (and we get plenty of that here in Charlotte in the summer).

  • Clean your headlights and taillights. Make sure you replace any burnt-out bulbs to avoid tickets.

  • Check out your windshield wiper blades. How did they fare over the fall and winter seasons? Now might be the time to replace them with a fresh set before spring and summer rain starts.

  • While you are washing and shining your tires, observe them. See if your tires have any notable concerns – including blisters, sidewall separation, and bulges. If it looks like there is some inconsistency in your tread, it may be time for a new set of tires for your Charlotte Toyota.

And last, but most important not least, make sure sure you are up to date with all of your important auto services – oil changes brake service, tire rotations, battery services, and coolant. Hot weather is incoming, you’re going to want your car to be ready to handle it.
