At Toyota of N Charlotte, we know a thing or two about car maintenance and safety...that’s why we’re here to teach some of our newest drivers, the teens, the importance of car maintenance.
Six car care tips for new drivers
It’s important that teen drivers learn about routine maintenance in order to extend the life of your new Toyota. While young drivers may be in a rush to get on the road, it is essential to remind them that a little bit of vehicle maintenance can take them and their Toyota a long way.
Change Your Oil
Routine oil changes are one of the most important auto services you can get for your car. The oil helps the different components of your engine to move properly and not cause too much friction, while also keeping your engine healthy. Most cars are recommended to visit the Charlotte Toyota auto service center for an oil change every 3,000 - 5,000 miles.
Take Time for Tires
Worn-out, also called ‘balding’, tires significantly increase your chances of blowing out and causing a car accident, and you want your teen to practice safe driving as often as possible. Checking your tire’s air pressure regularly, as well as stopping by the Toyota auto service for tire rotation, could be the difference between a smooth ride home and a massive headache on the road! At our auto service center, our technicians will also check your tire pressure and adjust accordingly.
Check your Battery
Teen drivers, are you planning any Winter Break road trips? Have you checked your car’s battery? Our Toyota auto service techs are ready to help! Making sure your battery is in good condition will help to prevent you from having to ask a stranger for jumper cables should your car not start.
Brake Safety
While you’re having your battery checked, it’s great to get into the habit of asking about your brake pads! If your brake pads are worn down, the only thing that may be stopped that day are your plans. When bringing a vehicle to Toyota of N Charlotte for maintenance, teen drivers should be sure to ask about brake pads for their safety.
Hoses, Tubes and Belts… oh my!
As a teen driver, checking under the hood may be overwhelming. After all, who knows what tube connects to which device? That’s right, the auto service techs at Toyota of N Charlotte know and they are ready to help! It is recommended that you change your belts and hoses every 60,000 miles.
Fresh Air Filter
Your car’s cabin air filter often gets overlooked because it does not make any noises or necessarily show you any problems, but leaving it unchanged may subject you and your passengers to bad air quality. We recommend that you change your Charlotte Toyota air filter every 15,000 - 20,000 miles.
