Snakes in your car: Should you be worried?

If you're active on social media, it's likely that you've seen reports of people finding snakes in cars. Whether they're crawling out of an air vent or wrapped around an engine part, it is possible to get snakes in your N Charlotte Toyota. But should you be worried about it? And how can you prevent it? Toyota of N Charlotte's body shop is here with tips.

Toyota of N charlotte tips

The first thing to keep in mind is that yes, it's possible to get snakes in your car. Snakes like dark, warm places where they can hide from predators AND have the first advantage to strike if they get cornered, and your engine is all of the above. It's also easily accessible from the ground - all they have to do is look up.

Can you really get snakes in the car?

That being said, while it's possible for snakes to find their way into the engine bay of your N Charlotte Toyota, it's unlikely that they'll find their way into the cabin. Because here's the thing - while the engine bay of your car is relatively open, your cabin is not. It's sealed up and there aren't any access points into the car from the engine. Really, the only part of the engine bay that accesses the car is your HVAC system, but that itself is sealed up, too. (So if you saw the video of the snake coming out of the lady's air vents, rest easy knowing it had likely entered them through the cabin of the car.)

Now let's talk about what you can do to prevent snakes in the car. Here are a few tips:

  • Keep your car in a garage if you can - this lessens the chance of one ending up in the engine bay

  • Keep your windows and doors closed all the time when you're not in the car. Trust us - snakes can climb very well, and it's not unheard of for them to climb in a car window.

Finally, what should you do if you find a snake in your N Charlotte Toyota?

  • Don't try to remove it with your bare hands. Remember, it's at an advantage and will likely be able to strike you before you can grab it. Instead, use a long pole or grabber to try to remove them.

  • If you can't get them, call wildlife services or animal control to have the animal removed safely from your car.

  • Whatever you do, don't ignore it. A snake in the engine bay may not seem like a big deal because it can't access the cabin of your N Charlotte Toyota, but it can actually become wrapped up in belts or even cause an electrical fire.
