Thinking about getting out of town to get your time in the sun? Spring break season is here, and that means a lot of people are about to hit the highway for a road trip. Road trips are a great way to see the country without having to spend a ton of money on airfare, and they're also a great way to find places you might never stumble upon if you flew or took a train. Before you take off, though, it's smart to make sure that your N Charlotte Toyota is ready for the task.
That's why the techs at Toyota of N Charlotte's auto service center are here with a quick guide to help you prep your car for a spring break road trip. Check it out!
How to prepare your car for highway driving
Tip: Make sure your tires can handle the highway. Are your tires properly inflated to the right PSI and ready for highway travel? You should also ensure you have the right amount of tread so you have the right traction and double-check that your tires don't have damage like bulges, blisters, sidewall separation, punctures, or anything else that could cause a blowout or flat.
Tip: Check your battery before you leave. Before you take on a road trip, have our Charlotte auto service techs check your car's battery. They can do a physical inspection and also test the voltage to ensure it's not going to die on you while you're on vacation and replace it if necessary.
Tip: Get an oil change. An oil change is always a solid bet before a road trip. Highway miles mean your car is working extra hard to cover long distances at high speeds, and it needs the right amount of clean oil to keep the engine cool and lubricated. The last thing you want is to be halfway to the beach with an overheated engine - schedule an oil change at Toyota of N Charlotte.
Tip: Examine your wiper blades. Check the blades on your wipers. Is the rubber in good condition? Will it clear your windshield without smearing, streaking, or making squealing noises? It's also a good time to check that your windshield wiper fluid reservoir is full.
Tip: Schedule brake service if it's been a while. When's the last time you had Charlotte brake service? You want your brakes working perfectly on a road trip in case you have to come to a sudden stop. Be sure to schedule so our techs can inspect things like brake pads, rotors, brake lines, brake fluids, etc.
Tip: Double check that all bulbs are working. Before you head out on your road trip, test your headlights, taillights, turn signals, and hazard lights to ensure that they're all working and no bulbs need to be replaced.
