Four auto repairs to know how to do DIY-style

We get it - some drivers like to leave the auto repairs to the professionals (and we're totally cool with that). However, to be the best owner possible, you should know how to do these quick ones to keep your N Charlotte Toyota in the best working order, especially if you're out of town or far from our repair shop.

#1: Change a burnt-out headlight bulb. Did you know that you can be ticketed for driving with a burnt-out lightbulb? Knowing how to change one on the fly is in your best interest. You can keep a couple of spares in the trunk so you're always ready for this auto repair, too. You'll need to pop the hood to access the headlights. Pull the old bulb out and pop the new one in, being careful not to touch the glass with your fingers. If you're not sure which bulb to use, ask our Charlotte Toyota parts store for help.

#2: Change a flat tire. It's essential to know how to do this DIY auto repair - what if you get stuck with a flat and no roadside assistance? To change a tire, you'll need to pull your N Charlotte Toyota off the road. Find a spot that's flat, even, and free of any sand or mud. Jack your car up, remove the lugnuts with the wrench, and pull the old tire off. Slide the spare on and put the lugnuts back on, and then head to Toyota of N Charlotte for a replacement (you can't treat a spare like a normal tire).

#3: Change your wiper blades. It's also a time-saver to know how to replace your wiper blades, which you can buy at Toyota of N Charlotte's parts store. You simply lift the blades off of the glass, pull up the tab, slide off the old blades, and slide the new ones in. Push the tab back down and you're ready to hit the road no matter the weather. Easiest DIY auto repair ever!

#4: Change your oil. Even if you choose to always schedule this auto repair at Toyota of N Charlotte, it's still helpful to at least have an idea of how to do it. You'll slide an oil pan under your car to catch the old oil and use a wrench to loosen and remove the oil plug (make sure the car is off). Catch the old oil in the pan (and remember to dispose of it properly), change the oil filter, and then put the plug back in and add new oil. You're set to hit the road again!
