Do you know how to detail your car like a pro? Taking the time to clean your vehicle can not only keep it looking like new, but also prevent expensive repairs in the future AND ensure you get top dollar when you sell or trade down the road. Toyota of N Charlotte's auto service team is here with tips.
#1: Wash the outside of your car. Before you do anything else, you need to wash the exterior of your car. You should rinse it first, then soap it up with a sponge, then rinse again with clean water. A few tips to keep in mind:
Use the right soaps. Using dish soap or shampoo can actually damage your N Charlotte Toyota's paint, so be sure to get the right products from our parts store when it's time to detail your car.
If you drop the sponge, toss it aside and get a new one. Any sand or dirt that's stuck on your sponge can leave tiny scratches and swirls in your car's paint.
And when you're done, hand-dry your car with a clean microfiber cloth. This will prevent water spots from forming on the paint. Don't forget to squeegee all the glass, too!
#2: Don't neglect the wheels and tires. Don't forget about the wheels and tires! They're usually the parts that get forgotten but they're also usually the filthiest. Scrub your wheels with car soap, water, and a scrub brush, and then rinse clean. You can also throw on some tire shine when you're done to get things looking brand-new again.
#3: Apply wax. Wax is essential when you detail your car; it helps protect the paint from fading, moisture, and other elements that can cause it to look worse for the wear. It also gives your car a glossy shine that makes it look new again. Choose a mid-quality wax (our Charlotte Toyota parts store can help you pick one) and apply it in the shade. Be sure to ONLY apply it to the body - wax never goes on the plastic or glass of your car. Remove the wax with a dry microfiber cloth and voila.
#4: Clean out the interior. The interior needs serious TLC because it's where you spend a lot of time. Wipe down all vinyl, plastic, and leather with the appropriate cleaners when you detail your car; this will keep them moisturized so they're less likely to crack. Vacuum out the interior, removing all floor mats and seat covers, and then spot treat any stains you see in the upholstery or carpet. Finally, get rid of all trash and then clear out any clutter in the backseat or trunk.
#5: Wipe all the glass. Before you're done, clean all the glass in your N Charlotte Toyota. When you detail your car and take this step, it'll ensure that you not only have a clear field of vision but also that your car looks impeccable. Be sure to use a cleaner formulated for your vehicle - regular glass cleaner can damage your tint.
